Have you ever noticed that you often get a back and leg pain together? You might never realize this, but these two types of pains are connected with each other. How? Read on to find out more.

When we experience severe back problems, we often feel certain stiffness and strain in our legs as well. The converse applies too. Those with leg pains often tend to develop back pains. Of course, they can occur separately too, but more often than not, back and leg pains are inter-connected. So what can one do about this?

We experience leg and back pain for one very simple reason – the back and leg are connected! The back muscles have a direct connection with those in the hip and leg areas. Not only that, your back muscles spring into action each time you move your legs. If you should end up injuring your leg muscles in some way, your poor back muscles are going to feel the heat as well, because they are taking an added strain they are not naturally meant to.

The back muscles can go a long way to support your whole body, but it can take strain only up to a limit, beyond which it will go kaput. Now you know why you experienced back pain each time you pulled your hamstring or twisted your ankle, right?

Under natural circumstances, the leg and back muscles are supposed to work with each other in complete and total harmony. If there is a strain in either, it causes the delicate balance to tip, causing both back and leg pain. If you have been going to bad back pain, you will find your legs getting strained as well. So this goes to show the pain are indeed connected and that neglecting one part can cause equal, if not more, injury to the other too.

There is yet another reason why back and leg pain are connected. The nerves of the back are connected with the nerves of the legs. This also explains why you experience extreme pain and discomfort in the legs when you have bad back pain.

Did you know that wearing the wrong kind of footwear could actually harm both your back and legs? Our backs tend to take some level of shock as we walk around. This buffering action is automatic and is hardly noticed by us, until we try on the wrong footwear. Exercise footwear is often a gym accessory that is neglected, leading to much pain and discomfort at a later time. Women who keep wearing stilettos or high heels all the time are at the highest risk of developing back and leg pain as well.

There are some medical cases where the patient experiences continuous back pain. In such circumstances, he or she might need medical intervention. But on the whole, we can easily alleviate our back and leg pain by making a few changes to our life and living. Wearing the right footwear, avoiding lifting heavy weights and preventing injury as far as possible to the legs and back is very vital to getting rid of your back and leg pain forever!
